Health and Safety Issue

This message warns of the danger of cutting trusses.

Cutting a trussed rafter to suit site-specific dimensions will reduce the load-carrying ability of the rafter, and is likely to lead to an unsafe structure.

Every member of a roof truss is essential, especially the bottom chord. Cutting a bottom chord can very significantly reduce the load-carrying capacity of the truss. The load that should have been supported by the cut truss must then be redistributed to adjacent trusses which may not be capable of supporting the extra loading.

Application of Message

This message is applicable to trussed rafters.

Messages should be applied to both ends of every rafter prior to delivery to site.

Message Format

Messages should be printed on A5 size laminated synthetic labels with a permanent adhesive backing to ensure adequate adhesion to the timber and durability of the messages during the time the rafters are stored on site prior to erection.
